When the Salem Public Library built Loucks Auditorium in 1991, Camerata Musica was delighted to move its concerts from the Library’s Anderson Room into Loucks. Loucks became our home.
Of course Covid stopped that. We were ready to resume concerts before the Library reopened Loucks. So we had concerts a couple of places before settling in to the Unitarian Church. That was a good venue too, with very good acoustics, excellent parking, a good piano … We did move back to Loucks when the Library reopened after Covid, but then budget constraints forced closure of the Library Sunday afternoons, so we went back to the Unitarian Church.
But now, thanks to the good citizens of Salem passing a levy, the Library – including Loucks – has reopened Sundays. Woohoo! We will be glad to return to our “home;” there were faithful audience members who would not come to the church, and we will never know how many prospective audience members did not find us!
Let’s celebrate our return to Loucks on January 11!
